We encourage the love of reading, and nature in our family. Do you? It’s always nice to have books worth reading when it’s cold, rainy, or even too hot to be outside exploring nature. This time of year, books can make great gift ideas, and are perfect for cuddling up to read. Every time I visit my grandkids, they love spending time having me read to them. Family time, while sharing things you love can be really special.

One of my favorite things to gift my kids when they were young were the National Geographic Magazines for kids. They loved them so much they couldn’t part with them. I took the collection of kids’ nature magazines, nature books worth reading, and put them in mini travel suitcases.

It was perfect for keeping them organized, and for them to pull out their favorite books to read. It was also awesome when they got to the point of reading and doing book reports for school.

We’ve made creative reading nooks, and even set up teepees for reading inside of. I’ll link to my Pinterest boards at the end of the post if you’d like ideas for setting up a fun place for the kids to read.

I had the chance to preview a few new books from National Geographic Kids. The first was Hey, Baby! A Collection of Pictures, Poems, and Stories from Nature’s Nursery. This book is a hardback book. It is packed full of stories, beautiful imagery, and is 192 pages long. The book is geared for kids pre-school to 3rd grade. But, honestly, that could be flexible going up to 5th-6th grade.

This book is definitely more of a keepsake book, hardback, filled with beautiful images, and waxy pages. You’ll want to read along with your kids if they are smaller. Older kids can handle reading this solo, and it’s filled with short stories, as well as longer ones.
