Grilled Steak Recipe: Carne Asada: Are you looking for a grilled steak recipe? We love to grill and cook Central, CA. style recipes. This type of grilled recipe is known asSanta Maria-style steak. I am sharing how we make our Steak Carne Asada at home.
Who wants to put the fun back into weeknights and their dinners?
Grilling is not only easy, but it’s also fun. Here’s why:
You don’t heat the kitchen because the steak is cooked on an outdoor grill (you can use an indoor grill if it’s cold, rainy, or winter).
The clean-up is easy, leaving you more time for fun!
You’ll love to eat grilled food that’s fresh and tasty! I’ll show you how easy it is to marinate the steaks and make side dishes for a quick, easy grilled meal to use any day of the week.

What’s great about this Steak, Carne Asada, is that it is easy to prepare! The marinated steakrecipe with Verdemarinade. I suggest you make the marinade and prep the side dishes ahead of time! Or you can make it on the same day if you like. The more time it is in the marinade, the better.
Steak Carne Asada
Steak is one of our family favorites, and living in Central, California, gives you plenty of time for grilling. The weather here has the best spring and fall seasons! My family loves a nice tender, juicy cut of steak that has been cooked to perfection. What about yours?
This 30-minute meal will have them satisfied and ready for an evening walk, playing games…
What’s not to love about a quick dinner that you can serve any day of the week? Perfect for allowing you more time for fun in your evenings!
For me, it’s all about making it easier at dinner time. I enjoy creating easy recipes that everyone can enjoy! I have a hungry teen at home. Quite often, you’ll find me making an appetizer pr snack to hold her over. I also love adding lots of fresh vegetables and fruits to our meals.
Serve Carne Asada With Lime and Tortillas
When eating marinated steak this way, you can squeeze lime on it. Oh, so good!
It is also served with tortillas.
What types of steak are used for Carne Asada?
Traditionally, Carne Asada is made with a flank, skirt steak, sirloin tip/sirloin bottom flap…
Thinly sliced steak. But you can also use a good steak like sirloin or Tri-tip roast… sliced thinly.
Look for good marbling, slice thicker meats against the grain, and use a marinade to tenderize the beef.
How To Grill Corn
Grilled Mexican Corn
Let me share how easy it is to make this grilled Mexican-style corn and Marinated Steak Recipe, giving you a juicy and flavorful finish that everyone will love.
Open the corn husks slightly, wash them off, and pat the corn dry.
Then, squeeze half a lime’s juice and blend until chopped finely, but don’t over-process.
Spread the mixture on the steaks and grind black pepper onto the steaks.
Then place the steaks and mixture into a plastic bag (We use food storage bags for marinating the steak) or dish covered with saran wrapand refrigerate a minimum of 30-40 minutes up to 2 hours. The longer, the better! You can even do this ahead of time. Even the night before.
After marinating the steaks:
Take out the marinated steak. Let the steaks get to room temperature before putting them onto the grill. Then add to the steak on the grill.
How to Grill Carne Asada Steak
Use a high-heat temperature for the grill to cook the steaks. 450°F and up. It will cook quickly. You get a high-heat sear. Cook 2-5 minutes per side (depending on the thickness of the steak).
Make sure to rest the grilled steak for 5-10 minutes before slicing, allowing the juices to redistribute through the meat.
Notes about using the marinade
This recipe for marinade makes enough for 4 -6 steaks.
Toss the plastic bag with extra marinade. Do not use excess marinate unless you are cooking it as shown in the photo (for food safety).
Make extra marinadefor garnishing and set it to the side (in a bowl, covered, or a container with a lid) in the refrigerator if using it for a garnish!

Where can you get all your groceries in one place for this recipe?
One thing that makes it easy for us is grabbing all my groceries and weekly needs at our favorite warehouse store, Smart & Final. It’s convenient, and there are great brand choices! The fresh fruits, veggies, and meats are the best!
I’m always trying to think ahead to keep things simple for our busy lifestyle. Knowing I’ll have steak leftovers, I grab things like Mexican rice and La Romanella tomato sauce, which makes a perfect side dish for our next night’s meal.
We also love stocking up on drinks for summer, Simple Value non-food products, and First Street brand products. The quality is amazing, and the prices are perfect for saving you money.
Above is where we purchased our food storage bags and ramekin dishesfor serving salsas. This is just one of the aisles in our local store where we shopped for our groceries for this steak recipe we shared with you today!
I made it to go with this grilled recipe. The salsas were Salsa Verde and a Fresh Strawberry Avocado Salsa.

Looks great! What cut of beef do you recommend for the steak?
Hi Lauren, We used a thin cut tri tip steak (You’ll find them in a roast cut most often) for our steak dinner this night. New York steak and rib eye would be great too. But, honestly any cut of beef would be good with the marinate. Happy grilling!
That grilled corn looks delish! My husband would love that steak:) do you think it would be good with chicken?
Hi Joanna, Yes I do! I think you could even use it on fish if you wanted. The herb mixture is very easy to make and would be perfect for any beef, chicken or fish. Hope you get to try it!
This looks amazing! I love grilling in the summer, and that corn looks amazing!
Thanks Lauren! We love grilling and get a lot of it done year round. Summers are a fun time though love grilling and keeping the kitchen cool.
Grilled steak and corn is probably one of my family’s favorite meals. I love how you did your corn. Never thought to microwave it. #client
Hi Carolyn, I learned that trick from my step mom, who learned it from a friend. It really helps it so the corn doesn’t burn. Thanks for your visit.
this sounds very flavorful. I’ve been loving flank steak on the grill lately and I think this would be a great addition to it
Hi Christine, I haven’t tried using flank steak that much. I bet it would be perfect with this on the grill. Thanks for stopping by.
This recipe looks awesome! I love First Street Products.
Thanks Jillian! Me too. I honestly can say I find some great buys all the time at Smart & Final.
I had someone email me about variety of peppers and ask about Serrano chilie peppers. I don’t include in the recipe. I want to say that all peppers comes with a variety of heat to them. Some are milder than others. Pick the peppers that best suit your family and what your accustomed to. My pepper of preference is a milder ones the Poblano, Jalapeno and Aneheim peppers. If you have never used peppers before I’m adding a resource list below to help you!
Also Use gloves when preparing peppers or I often will stick my hand in a plastic bag and use it as a glove. I seed my peppers prior to using in the recipe. I have this step in the recipe directions but, am repeating it in case someone misses that point. If you need a reference to the variety of chilie heat use these references for heat index. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scoville_scale and http://www.chilliworld.com/factfile/scoville_scale.asp
Hope this helps anyone who is concerned with using certain peppers. Hope this helps, Theresa
