Last-Minute Christmas Decorating Ideas

Add Greenery and Garlands

Add garland like this on mantels, shelves, and the top of the piano. Or add greenery in vases, and don’t forget to add a bit of greenery to a table centerpiece.

Hang String Lights To Create Magic

String lights, snowflake string lights, and fairy lights are easy to put up and take down. Add them to window sills, into the greenery on the mantle, and other places in the living room. For walls use command hooks like this that won’t damage the wall.

Make a Christmas Simmer Pot

Give your home a festive aroma! Making potpourri for a simmering pot is easy using this recipe. Then simmer the ingredients on the stovetop.

Display Christmas Potpourri In a Bowl or Basket

Get Christmas Potpourri or like this Holiday Potpourri Bowl Filler: Then add it to bowls, vases, baskets, or a pretty wooden box.

Put Up a Smaller Pre-Lit Christmas Tree

Make things simpler this Christmas. Last year I got a pre-lit flocked Christmas tree similar to this. You can get the artificial Christmas tree unflocked and pre-lit too. It is perfect for small spaces or when you don’t want to set up a big tree. They are easy to put up and take down. Plus, you can reuse it next year.

I also love the idea of setting a few of these 2ft. pre-lit flocked artificial Christmas trees with wrapped burlap bases on either side of the fireplace mantle. Get more ideas and options for Christmas trees and holiday decorations.

Shop Your Home

I often repurpose existing decor. I’ll either bring out items I already own or pull some of my favorite decorations out of storage. I then select a few key pieces to use, such as my favorite vases, candles, and decorative bowls. To add a festive touch, I might fill the vases with potpourri or display holiday ornaments inside them.

Last-Minute Shopping Solutions

Visit a Local Thrift Store: Browse the thrift store to find unique and affordable holiday decorations. Sammie and I often go to our local thrift and second-hand shops and find hidden treasures.
