Joann Fabrics Closure – RIP Joann Fabrics. If you haven’t heard all Joann stores are officially closing after roughly 80 years. I decided to write a post to help the crafting and sewing community be provided with resources and alternatives for finding quality fabrics and craft supplies.

In a hurry scroll down to list of fabric suppliers and fabric shops. Find both brick and mortar and online fabric shops. Are you looking for something else? Find Sewing Projects, Tips, and Resources: Sewing/Tips.

First a Quick Look back at how it all began…and how it’s ending.

When did it all begin for Joann Fabrics?

It began as the Cleveland Fabric Shop in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1943.

Joann Fabrics Going Out Of Business

Joann Fabrics Final Winding Down via Joann spokesperson. Nobody jumped to buy them and rescue the fabric and hobby store business. Now they will be liquidating their stock and closing shop. The move follows a bankruptcy auction in which the winners, GA Group and the retailer’s lenders, said they will initiate going out of business sales at all locations (reference)

Sewing and Crafting Memories at Joann Fabrics

Joann Fabrics Closure: 15+ Where to Find Fabric & Craft Supplies. This post is filled with online craft and sewing resources! Plus alternatives to shopping at the closing Joann Fabrics. Click over to find out more…

As a crafter and sewer I was saddened by the news. The memories of looking at pattern books flipping pages. Picking out fabrics and notions to go with the fabrics.

Shopping with my grandma and mom before they passed. Learning to sew, quilt, and craft using them as a resource. And then shopping there with my girls and grand children.

I shopped Joann Fabrics from childhood to now. And although I moved to a more rural area I often stopped while traveling or ordered online. I even did a few projects featured on their site.

Where to find online communities for crafting and sewing?

Find Craft and Sewing Communities:

  • Join online sewing and crafting communities. Find online classes, support and resources for sewing and crafting.
A few of my favorites are CreativeBug, Craftsy, Skillshare, and…
  • Get inspiration from Pinterest follow to see what we are pinning for inspiration, and forums.

Plan ahead by knowing what you need and shop sales online and small brick and mortar shops:

  • Sewers and crafters who live by Joann’s might want to stock up on essential supplies when they find good deals as they sell off their stock of sewing and craft supplies.
  • Watch for deals and sales from small online shops on Etsy. And from other online fabric retailers. I will have a list below to help you find other places to find your supplies.
  • Make a list of supplies you use frequently. Get my craft planner printable to help you plan your projects.

Where to shop for craft and sewing supplies?

Shop small, shop local, and smaller craft and sewing retailers:

  • Support local fabric, quilt, and craft stores.
Find them by doing a google search (near me). Which should bring up local brick and mortar shops. Some of them may have online websites for shopping too.
  • Taking a sewing, craft, or hobby class in person can give you hands on learning and customer service to answer questions and have a person guide you.
I am a big online class taker but occasionally it is fun to do a in person class.

Explore Digital Patterns and Resources:

  • Digital Patterns are becoming more popular and online tutorials.
Besides having a few of my own, I love getting digital patterns on Etsy. And for online learning I love CreativeBug.
