How to make tacos

I prefer chopping my vegetables prior to browning the meat. This is so I can add them right away after browning the ground beef. *

Finely chop (or use a garlic press) 3-4 garlic cloves. Chop up 1 onion, a poblano pepper (that has been washed and seeded) and red bell pepper (also washed and seeded).

Next open a 7.75 ounce can of El Pato Salsa de Jalapeno. This is a tomato sauce with jalapeno. Don’t worry it’s not too spicy. You will also add 1/4 teaspoon cumin, salt, and pepper to taste.

If you do like it spicy you can add a little more cumin and a touch of cayenne powder (1/4 tsp.). You can serve this with fried corn tortillas or soft corn tortillas or soft flour tortillas, which can be heated in the microwave. I like using; A lightly sprinkled water paper towel to keep the moisture, and from tortillas drying out. We keep taco night pretty simple.

Ingredients

  • Lean Ground Beef 1.25 to 1.5 pound
  • 3-4 cloves garlic
  • 1 yellow or white onion
  • 1 poblano pepper
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 7 ounce El Tapo de Jalapeno
  • cumin
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. I prefer chopping my vegetables prior to browning the meat. This is so I can add them right away after browning the ground beef. *If you use anything else you will have to drain the grease after browning, before adding vegetables.
  2. Step 1: Finely chop (or use a garlic press) 3-4 garlic cloves. Chop up 1 onion, a polbano pepper (that has been washed and seeded) and a red bell pepper (also washed and seeded).
  3. Step 2: Brown ground beef, stirring occasionally and drain if needed.
  4. Step 3: Add in garlic, onion and peppers. Saute them until onion is translucent.
  5. Step 4: Add El Tapo Sauce and stir until combined.
  6. Step 5: Add 1/4 tsp. cumin, 1/4 tsp. black pepper and dash of salt. Then stir and simmer on low about 10 - 15 minutes. I cover mine with a lid when simmering. This keeps meat sauce from drying out.

Recipe Notes

Add more cumin and a dash of cayenne pepper if you want your tacos more spicy. Prep shredded cheese and lettuce earlier and store in fridge until needed. Heat taco shells just prior to serving with your taco meat.
Serve with Mexican rice as a side dish. Start prep per directions prior to starting to cook meat.
This recipe can easily be double for bigger families or larger groups.

Sometimes when I’m cooking ground beef I cook enough for two recipes and divide the cooked meat up. Then I add the second portion to this 30-minute pasta sauce recipe. If using today’s recipe I’d divide the meat prior to adding the El Tapo sauce.
