This recipe uses fresh and frozen fruits. If you are having a hard time finding groceries or the fruit is out of season frozen is a great substitute for fresh. The fruits are flash frozen which helps preserve the fruits.

Smoothie Blending Tip -If you do use all fresh fruits you will need to add ice. Typically 1 to 2 cups of ice cubes added to the top of the ingredients will be plenty. Start out with less and then add the second cup. This way you can get the consistency and thickness you like!

Blueberry Smoothie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 apple (green or red)
  • 1 piece of peeled fresh ginger (optional)
  • 1-1/2 cups blueberries (frozen or fresh)
  • 2 cups strawberries (frozen or fresh)
  • 3/4 cup nectarines or peaches (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 cups organic apple juice
  • 3 heaping tablespoons of yogurt (we use vanilla yogurt)
  • 1 – 2 tsp. organic honey
  • Ice if making the smoothie with fresh fruits

This recipe for a blueberry smoothie is easy to adapt, by adding your favorite fruits! We added strawberries and peaches for natural sweetness, along with a little honey to offset the bright, bold flavors of the ginger.

Need the recipe to be dairy-free? Omit the yogurt, then reduce the apple juice a little and add ice.

Can you swap out the apple juice? Yes, you can use milk, soy milk, and even water!
