Fun and Free Things To Do This Summer

Fun and Free Things To Do Before Summer Ends! You'll love these 10 plus fun and free things to do with or without the kids this summer. Beat the boredom and have fun with all these ideas.

I have been here in our town all summer due to sports. Gah. Now, we’ll be making back to school lists and doing summer clearance shopping. Before you know it back to school shopping. But, not quite yet! There is still time to have some fun! We have listed some summer bucket list ideas for you to capture all those moments left and to savor summer.

Plan a two day trip nearby

I’ve been dreaming of heading to Monterey again or Big Sur. Which has become a virtual island because of a bridge collapse and a landslide that blocks a huge section of Highway 1. We’d probably have to go up 101 to Monterey, and down to Big Sur on Hwy.1 (a different way, due to closures.) But I hear, almost all businesses are open. Have you ever traveled to Big Sur?

If your looking for places to stay I heard this place Glen Oaks Big Sur, is great to stay at. We heard that guests who call in July to reserve dates will be entered in a raffle to win 1 of 10 bottles of award winning Bernardus Wines. Simply put “Bernardus Promo” in the Notes field at time of booking when making reservations online, or please be sure to discuss it when making a phone reservation. Promotion excludes holidays and weekends.

  • Valid for Redemption: July 11th, 2017 – October 30, 2017. Offer valid on the following days: Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Sun.

You might remember our trip to Carmel? See some of our travel adventures, grab some ideas and make a few plans.

Plan a day trip

Closer and another favorite day trip destination for us are the beaches along the Central Coast like Cayucos, Los Osos which has a nature preserve, and Cambria is another small coastal town just west of us and an easy 40 minute drive over the top of the coastal mountains, then right onto Hwy.1 If you are a long time reader you’ll remember some of my coastal posts. I promise to share photos after heading to  the coast in Cambria. We love heading out there for lunch at Lynn’s cafe and deli after the beach.

Go to your local fair

Sammie sold tickets for our local Mid State Fair as a fundraiser for soccer. She’s excited for a few of the concerts that are coming up at one of the biggest fairs around with headliners that sell out in minutes! There is always so many free music concerts on the smaller stages, which are just as good.

If your in Paso Robles, California you know it’s a fun summer must. If you live elsewhere and have time for a drive, be sure to add this over-nighter to your bucket list. But, plan ahead lodging accommodations generally sell out. We are going to head over there to share what’s up at the fair this summer.

Read some books

I am finding myself getting our house back in order too, from summer at home. But, in between I have also finished a few books this summer. The most recent is The Breakdown, which I received a pre release copy of. I really enjoyed it as it was a pretty quick read, at around 328 pages.

“If you can’t trust yourself who can you trust?” The book was by the author B. A. Paris, who also wrote,Behind Closed Doors, which I didn’t read. The Breakdown is a mystery novel. By the end I never would’ve guessed it’s outcome! Just enough edge to keep you wondering…. Perfect for your lazy days indoors, beach or pool reading. Or read it this fall, when the kids go back to school.

There are a few more books on my summer reading list. More about them later. What have you been reading?

  • Below I have ideas and resources for reading with the kids and kids reading.

Learn a new craft

As for crafts I’m trying to work on my crochet skills, and received this book Dumpling Cats to try my hand at. It has all skill level projects and the cutest little witch cat. Which is an intermediate project, which I doubt I am anywhere near to trying yet. I’ll have an overview of this craft book coming up soon. And a fun tutorial for a wreath craft coming up too.
