Have any of you been working on projects for styling your home? I already ticked off the main – guest bathroom and now I’m starting on our dining / living room spaces in preparation for gathering together over the season. Many times throughout the year we host our family. Our lifestyle is down to earth yet, we love home decor style to set a mood when entertaining. Today I’m sharing how I add home decor style and table wares, along with a few easy tips for styling and entertaining.

Growing up my mom was really great at entertaining. She was a great cook, had stylish décor . She would let me help or arrange things when getting ready to entertain. I’d like to think that’s how some of her style rubbed off to me. Maybe that is why I enjoy putting together gatherings, events and celebrations too. What about you??

3 Easy Sets of Tips For Styling and Entertaining in your home

There are a few simple things you can do to get your home styled and ready for this time of year. One is planning and knowing how many people will be at your dinners or parties. Will you be having guests stay over for a night or two? What type of gathering will you have? A dinner? A dessert and coffee party? Just cocktails?

I found over the years that investing in good, quality pieces is way better than getting something to just to get you by. Those pieces always seem to break easily, although they may be cheaper you spend more money in the long run. Has that happened to you before??

I like using my table serving ware to hold seasonal items for display on our tables too. It can really set the mood. Think of adding, grapes, apples, pomegranates and rotate them out as you use them. If it’s the holidays add in ornaments, orbs and even potpourri. Of course when I do cook I use alternate bowls, plates or serving dishes for those display or mood setting items. Then use my good serve ware for entertaining.

Each year I purchase one or two items I can afford to add to my entertaining housewares or other home décor needs. Last year one of my big splurges was a nice, big roasting pan. This year I was looking for serving dishes. I was super excited when I found this Morandi Set of bowls by Roost at Burke Décor. The sizes are listed below and are great for all those dishes you serve when entertaining. Our favorite side dishes are green beans, sweet potatoes or mashed potatoes and seasonal salads with fresh greens and beets. What kind of side dishes you serve?

How to pick the right serving sets;

1. Know how many people your serving (planning and guest lists are essential)
2. What is your style? Is your gathering formal, relaxed or casual?
3. Know what key pieces you already have and make a list of what you need
4. Know how you will set up your table, serving area or counter space

I decided to get and share this set of three bowls are from the Morandi Collection of ceramics and glassware which was designed with a Bauhaus ( fine arts and crafts style) sensibility in mind.

Each piece in the collection is shaped with minimal, clean, architectural lines.

• I thought to myself this is a set I can easily add to, will go with my current dishware or stay current as my dishware changes. Why? Because of the classic style. When you pick something neutral with clean lines vs. a very definitive pattern it will stand the test of time.
• The serving bowl set is so beautiful in person! A photograph really doesn’t do it justice. Smooth ceramic feel, with pretty brown /grey speckles.
• This set can be perfect for any setting modern, elegant, casual or even farmhouse. Just by varying your table cloths or linen napkins you can define it’s style.

What are your needs for updating your home décor this year? Sometimes something as simple as updating pillows. Or adding a mirror to your dining or living room wall to make the room have more light. Or adding candles with seasonal colors or home décor accents is all that is needed to add that extra special touch to your home or entertaining.

I spotted these pillows but, the Waterland Pillow caught my eye. Not only do I love the colors but, the textures are intriguing. I love the design culled from satellite images of earth, these graphic pillows make modern technology a little more warm and fuzzy. Designed by Elise Flashman. Although my leather sofa is brown, these colors could easily be slipped into my dream design. Or was I just looking for another excuse to paint my dining / living room navy blue or get a new couch??

Easy Ways to add home decor style;

1. For investment pieces select items with clean lines
2. For investment pieces neutral colors over complicated patterns or trendy colors will stand the test of time
3. Invest in quality or quantity (if on a budget this does take time)
4. Pick 1 or 2 items you need now to invest in and make a list to future needs

Don’t forget this easy way to add classic style for any occasion is by having pretty glassware.

Como Collection of Glassware

Planning helps you have the right key pieces for setting your table, serving area or for setting up your barware station. My mom loved the classic style barware and I even have a few pieces from her sets. They were tinted glass with stylish clean lines, much like the Como Glassware. We loved these as it reminded me of a modern version of my mom’s stylish 1960’s glassware. I love that the line of glassware has a set of bowls and sets can be purchases individually.
