Directions

45 minutes before baking thaw the delicately seasoned salmon.

Pre-heat the oven to 425F

  1. Place the (unpackaged) oven-safe cedar plank onto a baking sheet, then place the baking sheet onto the middle rack of the oven. Bake for 14-18 minutes or until the inter temperature reaches 145F.
  2. Slice the French bread, open the cream cheese with chives and onions, and mince fresh chives.
  3. Remove the salmon from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  4. Assemble the crostini, spread the chive cream cheese over the French bread, and add the salmon by flaking it and placing it onto the bread with the cream cheese. Add chives, and drizzle with honey just before serving.

For a refreshing compliment to the appetizers serve with fresh, thinly sliced, orange slices. You can pre-slice them before assembling the salmon appetizers.

Recipe Notes:

  • Get fresh oranges to slice thinly and serve with this appetizer. I like to arrange them pretty on a plate and have a fork or small serving tongs for self-serving.
  • Also, purchase additional salmon, crackers (I like water crackers), and cream cheese. Then, I laid the crackers on a tray, added the spreadable cream cheese, and the salmon in a ramekin. This makes it easy for people to make additional bites.
  • I like getting the take-and-bake French Bread Baguette. Bake it for 8 minutes, cool, and slice. It tastes just like fresh baked or fresh baked baguettes and slice and bake them in the oven until slightly toasted.
  • The additional time is for defrosting the salmon and cooling it after baking it.

This salmon crostini appetizer is best served right after assembling them.

Tips for Pairing

Consider a variety of options to pair when serving appetizers. Offer a few vegetarian and/or vegan options. Play with flavors and textures. Keep appetizers simple and easy to eat. Expect to serve an average of 4-6 appetizers per person.
